Kay is the Ayuri’s artificial interpreter, who was built from a kit to fill her role in the crew.
I remember my Spanish professor asking the class why they though Spanish with an American accent is so much more painful to listen to than English with a Mexican accent. I said it was because Spanish is a better sounding language to begin with.
Also, Ayuri turns one this week!
